June in the Land of the Brave
Glowing landscapes, bold history,
and the warmth of national pride
It’s the month of June, and Namibians, accustomed to the heat of their naturally arid region, have
begun to brave the cold weather accompanied by harsh winds. This winter, however, is bathed
in a golden glow, with lush grasslands as evidence of the generous rains that have fallen over the
land that hosts two of the world’s most famous deserts – one of which is the oldest on Earth.
This June is remarkable not just because of the rainfall that still lingers, but also because of the
history that reminds us of our journey as a nation. It was in this month that Namibia’s voice rose
to echo within the chambers of the United Nations and across the world, lighting the path to our
freedom after years of armed struggle.
Through national resistance and cold winters, we have endured every challenge and soared above
them. This June, Namibia is aglow with promise – a promise that the 3.1 million inhabitants were
born to shine, and indeed, destined to rise.
Welcome to the Land of the Brave. Travel safely, embrace her beauty, and be sure to keep warm.
Her Excellency
Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah
President of the Republic of Namibia
