Born in Namibia, Make the Difference Globally
Dear Reader
As the first light breaks over our land, I write to you with hope in my heart and Namibia ever present in my thoughts. May this letter find you in good health and ready to embrace the possibilities of today, while reflecting on the lessons that have shaped us.
Namibia is on the cusp of a new government, with a newly and duly elected Head of State and Members of Parliament. Our gaze is set towards experiencing a transformative shift, a new beginning. Have you, like Namibia, already embarked on your new beginning, a “new year, new me” journey or is it still too early to do so?
New years are bursting with opportunities to try again; they are a refreshing reminder that hope remains and often beckon for us to step into the unknown with renewed optimism.
Namibia is not just a country—it is a living, breathing macrocosm of our individual and collective contributions, dreams and aspirations. Indeed, our oil, diamonds, and natural resources are wonderful endowments, but they alone do not define us. Only within the context of our landscapes, our traditions, and our extraordinary people, do they become part of our immeasurable treasure trove. Together, these are the true riches which make Namibia and its people truly wealthy.
Even on the quietest days, a new Namibian child is born, carrying with them the hopes and dreams of an entire nation. For this child, and for every Namibian-born soul, we owe a country they can call home, a future they can believe in, and a legacy they can carry forward with pride. Namibia is our home, our strength, and our responsibility. Whether your name is Kooper, Shikongo, Karumendu, Mbwale, Nengola, //Garoeb, Van Wyk or any of the many others, this is your home—your duty is to protect it.
Economic freedom, stability, peace, and prosperity are not distant dreams. Healthcare that heals without hesitation, infrastructure that connects dreams to reality, and communities where children’s’ laughter rings out in safety—this is the Namibia we must strive to build.
We have planted trees that can only bear fruit tomorrow, fully aware that we may never rest in their shade. Yet we plant them, not for ourselves, but for the future of a nation. It is now your collective responsibility to water these trees, protect them, and share their fruit with those who come after us. Not in hashtags or social media likes, but through the real, everyday actions that make a lasting difference.
Before you let frustration cloud your vision for 2025, pause, look around you. See the miracles that are unfolding every day, and remember the soil of this country is in your bones, beckoning you to bring a smile to someone’s face, to be the kind heart in a world that often feels harsh, and to build a future that is better for all.
To our friends around the world, Namibia is more than a destination—it is where dreams are planted, where hope is cultivated, and where the impossible becomes possible. It is the Land of the Brave – where our biggest aspirations can be realized.
2024 was a defining year for many of us in many ways, as it was refining for all of us as a nation, stretching us beyond our limits and revealing the strength of our resilience.
Let 2025 be the year we lead with courage, and build with determination. Together, as a nation, let us build a strong Namibian House and a global community with a shared future of prosperity, peace and unity.
